Man fatally shot by Roseville officer ID'd

ROSEVILLE, CA - Roseville police shot and killed a 35-year-old man after responding to a domestic disturbance call Saturday night.

Police were called to a residence on the 1600 block of Sierra Gardens Drive at 10:53 p.m. after they received a report of a "very intoxicated" man, armed with a baseball bat, pushing a woman, said Roseville Officer Dee Dee Gunther.

When officers arrived, the man, later identified as Paul Lawson Storey of Roseville, fled on foot through the neighborhood.  A resident later reported seeing Storey running while holding a gun, Gunther said.

Officers located Storey on the 1700 block of Tanglewood Lane and attempted to take him into custody, but he resisted and fought with one of the officers, Gunther said.

According to Gunther, the other officer, fearing for his partner's safety, fatallly shot Storey.

"I heard three shots and I came outside," said area resident Lindsay Bradley.

She believed Saturday night's incident should have ended without lethal force.

"I don't think it's worth taking somebody's life who has two young children and a wife," said Bradley. "I think he should have listened, but I don't think he should have been shot dead. I think there were other ways to handle the situation."

The incident was being investigated by the Roseville Police Investigations Unit, and will be monitored by the Placer County District Attorney's Office, according to the department's protocol for officer-involved shootings.

The two officers involved in the shooting have been placed on paid administrative leave per standard procedure.
